What is Kruti Dev, and why convert it to Unicode?
Kruti Dev 010 is the Hindi font that typists in government offices, courts, printing presses and typing exams have used for decades. It is not a real Hindi encoding: the file stores ordinary English keyboard letters, and the font draws them as Devanagari. That is why a Kruti Dev document opened on a computer without the font, or pasted into WhatsApp, email or a website, shows text like Hkkjr ljdkj instead of भारत सरकार.
Unicode is the standard every phone, browser and modern font understands. Once the text is converted to Unicode (the kind shown in fonts like Mangal and Nirmala UI), it displays correctly everywhere, can be searched and copied, and no longer depends on one font being installed. The Krutidev to Unicode converter above does this in both directions.
How to convert Krutidev to Unicode
- Keep “Kruti Dev → Unicode” selected and paste your Kruti Dev text into the left box.
- The Unicode Hindi appears on the right as you paste or type. There is no button to press.
- Click Copy and paste the result anywhere, or download it as a Word file.
To go the other way, for example when an exam form or an old office template still needs Kruti Dev, choose “Unicode → Kruti Dev”, paste Unicode Hindi and copy the result. Paste it into Word and set the font to Kruti Dev 010, or use “Copy for Word”, which sets the font for you.
Converting text copied from Word, with English words inside
Real office documents mix Hindi with English: order numbers like “No. 12/A”, dates like 01/10/2026, names of departments, email addresses and website links. In a Kruti Dev file those English parts are typed in a different font. Most converters only see plain text, so they turn the English into Hindi letters as well, and “01/10/2026” comes out as “01ध्10ध्2026”.
This converter reads the font names that Word and Google Docs copy along with the text. Parts set in Kruti Dev are converted; parts in Arial, Times New Roman or any other font are left exactly as they were. You will see a note under the boxes telling you how many parts were kept. If you type the text by hand or paste from a plain text file, there is no font information, and everything is treated as Kruti Dev.

Tips for clean results
- After converting, change the font of the document to Mangal or Nirmala UI. If it still shows Kruti Dev, Word will draw the Unicode text with the wrong shapes.
- Kruti Dev text looks like random English when the font is missing. That is normal: paste it as it is, and do not “fix” the letters by hand first.
- Conjuncts such as क्ष, त्र, ज्ञ, श्र, the short i sign (ि) and the reph (र् written above a letter, as in कार्य) are the parts most converters get wrong. They are all handled here, but if you find a word that comes out wrong, email the Kruti Dev text to hello@kruti-dev-to-unicode.com.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a Krutidev to Unicode converter do?
Kruti Dev 010 is an old Hindi font that stores English keyboard letters and only looks like Hindi when that font is installed. The converter rewrites those letters as real Unicode Devanagari characters, so the text reads correctly on any phone, website, WhatsApp or Google Docs without the Kruti Dev font.
Is this Krutidev to Unicode converter free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no word limit and no watermark. Conversion happens in your browser, so it also works for long documents.
Why do English words turn into Hindi letters after conversion?
In a Kruti Dev document, English words are normally typed in another font such as Arial. When the text is copied as plain text the font is lost, and a converter cannot tell the English words from Kruti Dev letters. This tool reads the font names that Word and Google Docs put on the clipboard, so English words, numbers and dates in another font are kept as they are. If you type or paste plain text, everything is treated as Kruti Dev.
Can I convert Unicode (Mangal) back to Kruti Dev?
Yes. Choose “Unicode → Kruti Dev”, paste your Hindi text and copy the result. “Copy for Word” pastes the Hindi part in the Kruti Dev 010 font and English words in Arial, so the document looks right straight away.
Which font should I use after converting to Unicode?
Any Unicode Hindi font works. On Windows, Mangal and Nirmala UI are already installed; on Mac and phones the system Devanagari font is used automatically. You no longer need Kruti Dev installed.
Is my text uploaded or saved?
No. The conversion code runs on your device. Nothing you paste is sent to our server or stored.
